One of the highlights of 2019 was leading the National Rugby Awards commercial partnerships team. One of our objectives this year in establishing a relationship with Guinness especially was to engage more with the grass roots of the game more throughout the year.

One of the great ways we have been able to deliver on this is through travelling to the prize winning clubs as they receive their prizes. On a cold and foggy Decembers evening I travelled to Bath to manage a training session for Bath Rugby Ladies being joined by two of England Rugby’s stars from the Roses team.

Amber Reed (Bristol Bears and England) and Zoe Aldcroft (Gloucester-Harpbury and England) were on hand to support the ladies and their coaches for their 90 minute session giving coaching tips and sharing insights to forty or so Bath Ladies players at the session.

In this video Zoe Aldcroft is giving some jumping tip to Baths line out jumpers in the forwards training.

Here you can see the backs running their drills watched by Amber Reed. This drill is ‘tag’ based with the objective to defend the kick and break fast from the back ideally running deep into the opposition half by supporting and fast passing out of the tackle.

The prizes are thanks to the support of Guinness at the 2019 awards (and we hope many more years to come). My input is to garner the relationships with the clubs throughout the year keeping the National Rugby Awards relevant all year, not just in August! What a start.
